MorningStar’s Faux Painting History
MorningStar Faux Finish Studio discovered its beginnings in the attic of a 1903 Victorian-style house located in Silver Lake, Kansas in the late 1980s. Eric & Brenda Deeter, the founders of MorningStar Studio, purchased this old house, in desperate need of repair. Their parents called it “the money pit”.
After settling in, and amid the constant sawdust and noise of construction, Brenda found in the attic a magazine containing an article about faux painting. With limited financial resources and lots of bravado, Brenda tackled her first color wash. The results looked pretty good, after the third re-do.
Consummate do-it-yourselfers, Eric & Brenda eventually moved from the old Victorian and built a new home. They did all the construction work themselves. Again, Brenda practiced her faux painting techniques on the walls. Eric then decided he would go into business as a handy-man and remodeler. Eric & Brenda attended their first faux finish school a few years later, and Brenda joined the business as the “faux painting division”.
Today there is no longer a “remodeling division”. Eric & Brenda have devoted themselves to providing their clients excellence and professionalism in faux painting. They have received extensive training from the nation’s top faux finish studios and continue to dedicate time to continued training and professional development. As MorningStar grows, Eric & Brenda are keeping their commitment to excellence as a foundation for all they do. Everyone who works at MorningStar must meet Eric & Brenda’s high standards of quality workmanship and attention to detail.
