About

Brenda Deeter got her start as an artist when she and her husband, Eric, bought an old Victorian style house in Silver Lake, KS (about an hour west of Kansas City).  They got a good deal because the rehab was only partially completed.  All their spare time went into the rehab and every extra dollar went into construction materials.  When it came to decorating, the budget was very thin.

But in the attic of this old house was a magazine explaining the technique of color washing.  Brenda decided that paint was cheap and so she went to work on her first faux finish project.  It looked pretty good, so she began experimenting on other rooms.  Sometimes she had to paint over everything and start again, but she developed good DIY skills and had a good eye for color.

A few years later Brenda needed to make a career change.  Eric signed them both up for their first faux finish class.  Brenda came home energized.  She painted over all the amateur faux finishes in her house and began her journey as a professional artist.  She and Eric formed MorningStar Home Specialists.  Brenda worked as a faux finish artist and Eric did remodeling & handy man work.

A few more years passed & faux finishing was now a bigger part of the business than remodeling.  So Eric shut down the remodeling and handyman work and joined Brenda as an artist’s assistant.  Together they have created many commission works, always studying and striving to stay on the cutting edge of the emerging faux painting trends.  They’ve applied their work on floors, ceilings, walls, cabinets, doors, furniture, woodwork, bricks, concrete, counter tops, and art canvas.   Brenda often says, “If it stands still long enough, we can paint it.”

As the market for faux and decorative painting evolves, Brenda continues to be on the leading edge of decorative painting trends in Kansas City while she holds on to the timeless  artistry of her craft.

Brenda has the skill of an artist and the eye of a designer.  Mixed with these skills she has the practical experience and knowledge of a contractor.  She excels at making her commission work fit the decor and style of your home.  She believes that decorative painting need not always attract attention to itself.  Sometimes it needs to be the background to enhance the  furnishings and accessories of your home.  Brenda’s ability to help you choose when and how to bring the WOW into your home is priceless.
